dear me

in the deep spaces
where the breath is large
and the mind feels small.
this is where we are
you and i.

in the glimpse of love
seen from a bird above.
carried upon the wing
lifted upon a prayer.
i’ll meet you there.

in the heat of the heart
a piece of the greater part.
where the soul finds solace
upon a leafy tree’s branch.
we are here my dear.

smoke screen

the mustard trousered soldiers
in crisp white shirts lie dead.

their heads decapitated
burnt to gray ash.

in the blue glass tomb
they lie still as silence.

and the question i ask
from lungs bellowing smoke
are these macabre omens?
