earth

morning’s elixir
from bitter coffee cherries.
and i feel happy.

the tented pricked ear
listens for the sounds of night.
but death is quiet.

gray fur on four legs
batting eyes in hopes of food.
i see fat tummy.

brown bird on a twig
ruffled feathers twitching.
singing in prayer.

quick brown fox
tip toeing on the white snow.
run white rabbit run.

a magpie hovers
over a black crow’s carcass.
thinking upon death.
