i eat earth’s bounty.
stained with blood of immigrants.
farming’s pound of flesh.

soft is the brown earth.
gentle germinating seeds.
suckling from the breast.

the sonorous earth
sighs with many velvet tongues.
my ear to the ground.

torn limbs before me.
earth under a battlefield.
trees dead and dying.
