the hot part of day
let’s earth take a siesta.
the midnight party.

the morning of my life
when i awoke to many struggles.
and yet sundown too quick.

god on the corner
shouting loud on his soap box.
words upon soiled tongue.

the union’s best man
was a woman with courage.
fighting for freedom.

is it oppressive
when old white men lead the sheep
like lambs to slaughter?

the plate a rainbow
of colors from the green earth.
the red not from blood.
