the brave can buckle
thrown at life’s hardest tackle.
getting up again.
blink
day stretches and yawns
opening a lazy eye.
then falls back asleep.
wintry whimper
white crisp snow
a gray beard around the edges.
old man whimpers.
limber
shivering sparrow
stabbed by shaft of sun.
clutching dead limbs.
heart warming
your smile is brighter
than midsummer’s yellowest sun.
