burning benjis
there once was a man so dire,
he burned all his money for fire,
and in the end it was spent
right up the chimney’s vent,
landing him in a perilous quagmire.
alms arm the palms
a monks life is tough
for the man living with strife.
alms for empty palms.
feed greed
the heart thinks it wants
things that it will never need.
still, i feed the greed.
eyes closed
counting my pennies
and never reaching dollars.
place coins on my eyes.
soft tears
the brown ground gives in.
soft like the stomach of earth.
wet like my tears.
