face forward

3 December 2012 by Jason

put on your pink blush.
yawn away the break of day.
your best face forward.

rigor mortis eyes

rigor mortis eyes.
you see beyond your demise.
burn the fog, the lies.

lion heart

27 November 2012 by Jason

when the body is thin and frail
and the bones cling to sinew.

when the breath is labored
and the heart a dry pump beating
like a hammer and anvil.

when the mists of time dwell
like fog across the windows
of the soul

and your purr rattles like a distant
chime across meadows of bowing grass.

when you are winding down
and the springs of your clock
can be wound no more.

your lion heart holds on, holds on.

when your breath is carried on high
warm from the beating of angel’s wings.

when that proud mouth takes its last sigh
and the heart taps rhythm no more.

your lion heart carries on, carries on.

your courage burnt hot on my soul.
your patient wisdom rooted in my heart.

and when i lie still in the dark
lonely night.

my hearth is warm, the hot memories
stinging my heart.

your lion heart beats on, beats on.

the time is marked and steady.
your lion heart purrs on, purrs on
like an ebbing coal, hot in my soul.

come life

19 November 2012 by Jason

come life.

come and do not cower behind illusion.
bring your chisels and axes, your scythes, slings and arrows.

i stand here.
david to your goliath.

i stand naked.

come life.

come and do not pity me my smallness.
though small i stand tall.
though thin my sinew is taut.
though shallow with breath my soul is fire.

come life.

come with your bluntest weapon.
i stand ready and willing.
i will dance in this valley of death with you.
i will bend at your blows
and i will be smoothed by your coarse hands.
but i will not break.

come life. i will not break.

though i buckle
and fall to my knee.
though you rain blows upon my fragile ego.
though my breath turns ragged
and my blood runs quick
my soul burns more brightly.

my metal is hot and your blows are true.

come life. come, come.
my metal is maleable, my core is strengthened.

your blows, my soul’s furnace
may smooth my rough edges
but my metal is hardened
my resolve strengthened.

come life. come dance with me.

and when you tire
i will climb out of the valley
of the shadow of death
and the kingdom and glory
will be all mine.

come life
come rain on my parade.

soft soul

16 November 2012 by Jason

how black is the night?
soft and wet my pulpy soul.
what noise these bright lights?

many days traveled.
the path verdant and sunny.
your hand warm in mine.

On Poetry

To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best day and night to make you like everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight and never stop fighting.
